Stanley Cup Finals, Game 7.
I threw on my favourite leather pants, a zebra print tank top and grabbed my Crosby jersey. I refreshed my make-up and walked out to see Sid standing at the window of our hotel room. We'd been together for just about a two years now. We met when the Penguins were on a road trip in Toronto, I was doing interviews for TSN and he just happened to be one of them. We hit it off from there. Everything was going perfect, in fact I rarely found anything wrong about this relationship which made me question it a little, but I wasn't complaining. I still lived in Toronto at the time I was seeing Sidney, when he came I would be at the games, working or not, and I would travel when I could to see him and we spent our summers together, half in Toronto and the other half in Nova Scotia with his family. After about 7 months of dating I finally moved out to Pittsburgh with him. We got a new condo together and Sid pulled some strings to get me working with FSN-Pittsburgh. Tonight could possibly be the biggest test of his life. The Stanley Cup Final Game. Whoever wins tonight takes the much wanted Stanley Cup home. It was between Detroit and Pittsburgh, the two finalist in last years playoffs, except last year Detroit won the Cup.
"You okay babe?" I asked as I walked over to Sid, placing my hand on his back.
"Yeah, just trying to focus" He said looking up at me. His eyes were so big and green, they almost took you by surprise.
"Don't think about it, at least until your with the guys."
"How can you not think about this!" He snapped back.
"Sid.."
"I'm sorry, I really am. I'm just so nervous, I don't want a repeat of last year"
"I understand. All you have to do is go out there and play your game. You guys have grown so much as a team and it got you back to the finals. You guys are on fire, you just have to keep the flame for one more game and it can all be over!" I smiled.
"What would I do without you" He laughed.
"I really don't know" I said adjusting his tie. I gave him a gentle kiss and we headed out to the bus. Sid went on the team bus and I went on the girlfriends/wives bus, I don't know why they had this but they did, we could just car pool but it's what they wanted. When we got to the arena I helped set FSN up. I was doing the before game/after warm-up interviews. I loved talking to the guys, even if it was for tv, they were the best group of people you could meet. After warm-ups, I met Sid, wished him good luck and gave him another kiss. I headed up to meet his parents, Troy and Trina and his sister, Taylor and Mario and his wife. The game started and the place went crazy. It was filled with Detroit fans, and about 100 Penguins fans. The Penguins took the lead. Max Talbot gave up two goals going into third period, Detroit with one goal. There was 6 seconds left in the game and the refs blew the whistle. Jordan Staal was up for the face-off and everyone was praying for him to win. He didn't. The Red Wings had the puck, the net was almost opened when Lidstrom had a free shot... Fleury to the rescue, he pretty much flew over to the other side to keep that puck from going in. And that was it, the buzzer went, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup! Media flooded onto the ice, then family and friends. Sid's family and I waited off the to the side, by the away bench while they passed around the Cup. Seeing him lift that cup was something else. I felt the tears form in my eyes as he skated over towards us. I moved a little closer to him, he picked me up, pressed his lips with mine and spun around. Then he moved on to his Taylor, then his mom and then his dad. He'd been waiting for this moment and it finally came to him. It was going to be one hell of a summer, and I got to spend it with the best boyfriend ever, the best group of people ever and the best family ever.
